For many Bourbon enthusiasts, visiting the Kentucky Bourbon Trail™ fulfills a lifelong dream. Today, we'll explore distilleries in the western region, one of its six regions.
Green River Distillery Co.
When J.W. McCulloch opened his Green River Distilling Company in 1885, he didn’t set out to make history. He just wanted to make Bourbon. Since then, Green River has gone on to receive international and national acclaim for its whiskey. The distillery has endured fire, Prohibition and a period of decline to reemerge as it stands today, with the restored Distilled Spirits Plant Kentucky #10 (DSP-KY-10) producing exquisite Kentucky Bourbon and rye.

B.H. James Distillers
B.H. James Distillers is located in the old Adairville Fire Station, formerly Oldham’s Sausage factory. Opened in 2022 by Shawn McCormick, a fifth-generation Adairville resident, the distillery produces award-winning Burton James® Whiskey and Bourbon, named after his great-grandfather. The distillery uses local corn, rye, and barley for its Kentucky Grit® Whiskeys and also offers premium James Lake® Vodkas.

Casey Jones Distillery
Casey Jones Distillery, established in 2014, focuses on authenticity and tradition. It offers daily tours and features over 20 award-winning craft Bourbons, barrel cuts, and shines for tasting. Located on a 74-acre farmstead in the hills of Western Kentucky, the distillery recently underwent a $2M expansion to enhance its production capabilities. Visitors can go to Hopkinsville, Kentucky, to learn about Casey Jones.

Dueling Grounds Distillery
Dueling Grounds Distillery is a small craft bourbon distillery located in Franklin-Simpson County, Kentucky. It may be one of the first stops on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail® for those entering Kentucky from the north on I-65. The distillery produces Linkumpinch Bourbon and other craft spirits.

MB Roland Distillery
Founded in 2009 by Paul and Merry Beth Tomaszewski, MB Roland Distillery is located in Western KY. They use local white corn in their Bourbons and whiskeys, which are still and barrel proof, with no water added after distillation. This creates a full-flavored, full-bodied spirit reminiscent of pre-Prohibition whiskey. Their range includes Kentucky Straight Bourbon whiskey and Kentucky Pink Lemonade.

Southern Kentucky Distillery
Southern Kentucky Distillery (SKD) produces 25 barrels of Kentucky Premium Bourbon daily, aged in three bonded warehouses. An expansion to double production and a new 19,000 barrel warehouse is underway. Located in a picturesque valley between Lake Cumberland, Dale Hollow Lake, and the Cumberland River, SKD attracts thousands of visitors annually. They offer tours and tastings at their high-tech facility and proudly produce Turby’s Cherrywood Bourbon and Long Ridge Rye Bourbon.

The Bard Distillery
The Bard Distillery, though young, has deep roots in a historic 1920’s school site in Graham, Muhlenberg County, Kentucky. Since starting operations in December 2019, it has earned awards for spirits like Cinder & Smoke Bourbon and Muhlenberg Whiskeys and Liqueurs. Founders Thomas & Kim Bard have unique backgrounds: Kim was a NASCAR driver, and Thomas, an engineer, attended school on the distillery site.
