For almost two centuries, the name Mattingly has been synonymous with world-class bourbon and innovation.
For nearly two centuries, the Mattingly name has been linked with top-tier bourbon and innovation. John Graves Mattingly (1823-1910) played a crucial role in refining the renowned column still, which is now utilized by leading bourbon producers worldwide to ensure a more continuous production process, meeting the increasing demands of his customers.

Today, Jeff Mattingly, a sixth-generation descendant of John Graves Mattingly, has developed and refined a unique custom bourbon blending process at his new distillery in Frankfort, KY. This process enables guests to blend their own bottle from a selection of "Double Staved" proprietary barrels chosen by the Mattingly team of master blenders.
Come Visit!
In the cellar is the heart of the distillery. There you’ll find the blending experience room. Here you’ll be guided through the process of “thieving” or extracting bourbon directly from the barrel. You’ll have chance to sample a selection of different taste profiles and once you find your signature taste, we’ll complete the bottle to your exact recipe, then create a custom label which you name and wax seal in your choice of colors. It’s the kind of experience to be shared with friends and family and one you’ll want to do again and again.
Here are experiences they offer:
Single Barrel Tasting Event
VIP JMatt Private Events
The Magnificent Seven Tasting
This distillery also offers an event space available for rent.
What Sets Their Bourbon Apart?
In bourbon production, the process begins with a virgin oak barrel, which is constructed from numerous wood staves. After assembly, the barrel's interior is fire charred. It is during this interaction between the distillate and the charred oak that the unique flavors develop. At J. Mattingly 1845, they take this process a step further. To enhance the distillate's contact with the charred oak, they insert additional staves into each barrel, extracting even more exquisite flavors from the "juice." The exact number of staves added remains a trademarked secret. However, the impact is unmistakable from the very first sip.

A Special Love for Veterans & First Responders
The distillery frequently releases commemorative bourbons to honor military veterans. For Memorial Day 2024, they released a limited-edition Mogadishu Mile commemorative bottling, with a portion of the proceeds supporting Kentucky Wounded Warriors. You can learn more here.
