Sipping Into Spring: My Go-To Bourbon Cocktails for Warmer Days

By Pegasus Recipes

Willett Pot Still Reserve Straight Bourbon Whiskey bottle

I like to transition my whiskey cabinet into the warmer months by swapping out heavy, winter mixers for fresh fruit, bright citrus, herbs, and bubbly ingredients. These three vibrant spring bourbon cocktails are easy for me to make at home: each recipe brings a unique flavor profile that highlights the season’s freshest produce, from garden-inspired twists like the Kentucky Maid to sweet berry blends and spicy honey infusions, ensuring there’s something refreshing and lively for any spring occasion.

1. Kentucky Maid

I enjoy this as a crisp, garden-fresh twist on a whiskey sour.

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz bourbon

  • 3/4 oz lime juice

  • 1/2 oz simple syrup

  • 3 slices of cucumber

  • 5–8 fresh mint leaves

How I make it:

I muddle the cucumber and mint with the simple syrup in a shaker. Then I add the bourbon, lime juice, and ice, shake vigorously, and strain it into a rocks glass over fresh ice.

2. Strawberry Basil Bourbon Smash

This is one of my go-to sweet and herbaceous drinks when spring berries are in season.

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz bourbon

  • 3/4 oz lemon juice

  • 1/2 oz simple syrup

  • 3 fresh strawberries

  • 3 basil leaves

How I make it:

I muddle the strawberries, basil, and simple syrup in a cocktail shaker. Then I add the bourbon, lemon juice, and ice, shake well, and double strain into an ice-filled glass. I like to finish it with a splash of club soda.

3. Hot Honey Gold Rush

I give the classic Gold Rush a sweet-heat springtime upgrade with this version.

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz bourbon

  • 3/4 oz lemon juice

  • 3/4 oz hot honey syrup (made with 3 parts honey to 1 part warm water, infused with hot sauce or chili flakes)

How I make it:

I combine all the ingredients in a shaker with ice, shake until chilled, and strain into a rocks glass over a large ice cube.

4. Spring Breeze

This is my pick for a vibrant, fruity, and bubbly drink on a warm afternoon.

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 oz bourbon

  • 3/4 oz pineapple juice

  • 1/2 oz peach liqueur

  • 1/2 oz lemon juice

  • 3/4 oz raspberry syrup

How I make it:

I combine everything in a shaker with ice, shake until chilled, then strain it into a coupe glass and enjoy.

Conclusion

For me, spring is all about lighter, brighter flavors—and these bourbon cocktails are the perfect way to welcome warmer days. Whether I’m mixing something fresh with herbs, leaning into juicy berries, or adding a little sweet heat, there’s always a new favorite in the rotation. So I grab my shaker, invite a few friends over, and let bourbon take on a whole new personality for the season. Cheers to sipping into spring, one refreshing glass at a time!
