Six Common Errors to Avoid Making During Your Kentucky Bourbon Trail Tours

Experiencing the Kentucky Bourbon Trail is unforgettable. However, it's important to plan things out carefully to make the most of the experience.
The following are six mistakes you should be sure to avoid when you're on a Kentucky Bourbon Trail tour.
Mistake 1: Making the decision to drive yourself
If you decide to do bourbon tours in your own vehicle and with one of your party driving...then someone is not going to have fun! Also, if you are not from the area, it is easy to get turned around. A lot of distilleries and horse farms are well out of city limits.
Consider hiring a bourbon tour company to drive you. Some come with a tour guide who will accompany you on the tour and provide history of not only the distilleries but also local history and landmarks. They also provide drop off/pickup service to the door of most distilleries, and make sure to keep you hydrated with water onboard.
Mistake 2: Trying to make too many stops in a day
While enthusiasm for experiencing all aspects of your tour is understandable, it is important to avoid overextending yourself. Assess realistically how many stops can be accomplished within one day to ensure a relaxed pace. Allowing adequate time at each location, particularly those you find most interesting, contributes to a more enjoyable and fulfilling experience.
Mistake 3: Forgetting to eat beforehand or bring snacks
The primary emphasis of any bourbon tour is, naturally, the bourbon. However, starting the day with a balanced meal is advisable, especially if you plan to sample several bourbons. Additionally, consider bringing snacks to enjoy between tours.
Side note: Some bourbon tour companies will include lunch in the price of their ticket.
Mistake 4: Not realizing that cell service may be spotty
You'll be going through some rural areas during your tour on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail. Cell phone service may be limited, so it is advisable not to rely on being able to always make calls or access websites on a smartphone during the tour.
Mistake 5: Thinking the only thing you can do is drink
There are plenty of attractions other than bourbon sampling to experience in the Kentucky Bourbon Trail area of Kentucky. In particular, you'll want to experience the culture of Louisville.
Louisville serves as an excellent base for your visit, providing a wide selection of museums, theaters, restaurants, and parks to enjoy during your time away from bourbon-related activities. Visit GoToLouisville.com to learn more.
Mistake 6: Not dressing for comfort
A bourbon tour is probably going to include a lot of walking, so it's important to dress in comfortable shoes and loose-fitting clothing. If your bourbon tour is during the summer, you also need to dress for the heat. Kentucky tends to be fairly hot and humid during the summer months. And on some tours, parts of the tour may be inside a rick house where the temps are cooler. Also, you might be going into working distilleries where closed-toed shoes are advisable. Layers is always a good idea. And don’t forget an umbrella just in case!
Bourbon tours are fun, educational, and most importantly full of bourbon. To make the most of this exciting experience consider reaching out to a professional bourbon tour company near you.
